Also pay a visit to Srimantha Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Assam’s biggest art complex a place where Assamese history and culture is depicted in a sprawling open enclosure. It has a beautiful museum where they preserved the masks (these masks are made in Majuli island), the traditional dresses and jewelers of the entire North East India.

Morning after Breakfast visit the famous Sakti Temple – Kamakhya Temple: The origin of Kamakhya Temple is pre Aryan situated atop the Nilachal Hill. The formost shrine of Assam, The Kamakhya is an ancient seat of Tantric and shakti Cults of Hinduism. The original temple was destroyed by the invading Muslims in their crusade against Hindu temples and idols in the early part of 16th century. Ultimately it was restored from ruins by King Naranarayan of the Koch dynasty and rebuilt in its present forming 1665 AD.
Later drive to Shillong approximate 100 km .Enroute visit Barapani (Umiam Lake): As per the legends, two heavenly sisters decided to make their way to Meghalaya. However, one of them had reached the destination and the other could not due to some reason. So the former could not trace out her sister and started crying with her broken heart. She cried so much that a lake was formed with her tears. Today it becomes a hub for the water sports activities such as speed boats, sailboats and water scooters. Adjoining to the lake, the Nehru Park offers an aviary and a collection of orchids and butterflies
Evening we arrive at Shillong, check in to the hotel and enjoy the comfortable evening.
The Capital of Meghalaya, Shillong is one of the major tourist destinations in North East India. The British loved this place so much that they had established its Capital for Eastern Bengal and Assam For its climate and unique topographical features the British referred Shillong as the “Scotland of The East”. Shillong is said to one of the most picture perfect cities in India that offers the best views around.
Morning after breakfast Visit Wards Lake located in the heart of the Shillong City adjoining to the Governors Residence. Shaped like a horseshoe, it is one of the prominent hang-out spot in Shillong. This century old lake was built by an engineer named Mr. Pollock. Hence it is also known to be as “Polok’s Lake”. One can opt for boating and pleasant walks on the cobbled sand stone pathways covered with varieties of flowers. Visit one of the largest Cathedrel of Meghalaya Situated in At Laitumkhrah. The colorful glasses of the skylight window along with the paintings of the Jesus spreading the messages of God are influenced by the European art and architecture.
Later in the day we proceed for Shillong Peak It is the highest point of Shillong, located in the upper Shillong an an altitude of 1961 meters (6,433 feet). The name Shillong originated from “Leishyllong” meaning god who is believed to live on the Shillong peak, overlooking the city and on a clear day one can enjoy the beautiful view of the entire City.
Elephant Falls Located in the Upper Shillong town it is one of the majestic waterfalls in Meghalaya. The water of this three steps falls comes down in flows from different levels over the fern-covered rocks and falls into the canyon down below. The best time to visit the waterfalls is during the monsoon when it offers breath-taking scenery. The forests covered with ferns and thick bamboo grooves are also worth visited for the nature lovers to find the presence of various species of butterflies, birds and orchids.

After having the breakfast at the hotel we proceed for a full day excursion to Cherrapunjee.
Cherrapunjee is a small hamlet, situated at an altitude of about 4823 feet (1484 m). Locally known as SOHRA. Cherrapunjee is located in the southern most point of Khasi hill sharing the border of Sylhet district of Bangladesh. Cherrapunjee offers a panoramic view of the hilly terrains, deep gorges and valleys with its spectacular waterfalls. It was once having the record of being the wettest place on earth, with an average rainfall of about 1150ms. However, this record has been overtaken by a nearby place Mawsynram in Cherrapunjee.
Later we visit Nohkalikai falls. This waterfall located 4 kms away from Cherrapunjee and known to be the fourth longest fall in the world it carries a pathetic legend behind its name. A woman named Ka Likai had an illegitimate child. After marriage the husband became jealous of her love for her daughter.
One day Ka Likai was out for work and her husband killed the daughter, cooked her flesh into a meal. When the woman enquired about her daughter, her husband showed the sign of ignorance. Before she went to look for her daughter, she thought of eating something and had the meal that her husband prepared for her. After having the meal she found both the wrist of her daughter in the betel-nut basket. Then she realized what had happened, killed her husband with a dagger and threw her off this cliff of this falls. This is how the falls got its name which means “Fall of Ka Likai.”
Later in the day we visit Mawsmai Cave: This 250m long cave is the major attraction for the tourists in Cherrapunjee. This natural limestone cave is wide enough for a person to walk comfortably, and one can see the myriads of stalagmites and stalactites all over the caves which are growing gradually. The caves are dark inside and electric torches are installed for the convenient of the tourists. Visit the Thangkharang Park. The park is the house of various orchids and birds. One can see the 180 degree view of the plains of Bangladesh on a clear day.

The Jaintia Hills in the State of Meghalaya is bounded on the North and East by the State of Assam South by Bangladesh and the West by East Khasi Hills District. A land of undulating hills rich in mineral deposits. The natural vegetation changes according to the topography of the land kingdom of Jaintiapur now in present day Bangladesh.
After breakfast at hotel we start yet another full day excursion to Jowai the town is located in the Jaintia Hills district. Jowai is not behind in its natural beauty it has scenic setting and breathtaking locations Jowai is home to many tribes, and these tribal settlements and villages can be visited during your stay in Jowai. The place is steeped in cultural heritage, and you can experience the culture that the tribes in Jowai follow.
Visit Jaintia tribal villages in Jaintia Hills. Jaintia Hills offer some of the most stunning natural sights in Meghalaya. The green surroundings, high plateaus, deep valleys, rambling rivers, and cascading waterfalls are feast for the eyes. Narrating in the Jaintia Hills is the site of a collection of giant Monoliths; some are among the tallest in the world. There can be found an ancient thatched Durga Temple which was once used for human sacrifice.
Jaintia tribe – a sub tribe of ‘Khasi’, are the inhabitants of Meghalaya. They have been residing in Jaintia hills and belong to the Proto Australoid Monkhmer race here; you can see tribal life from close quarters.

After breakfast we e experience – Assam and Meghalaya next entails a 296-km journey to the Kaziranga. On an arrival check in at the in your hotel later in the afternoon we proceed for a visit to the Kaziranga National Park. Located on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra River in the far North East of India, Assam, Kaziranga National Park covers an area of approximately 430-sq-kms with its swamps and tall thickets of elephant grass making it the ideal habitat for the Indian One-Horned Rhino
Here you can see a variety of animals and birds amidst boundless natural beauty. Return to your hotel for night stay.
After breakfast we visit the park again to explore the unexplored. Kaziranga National Park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1940. Wildlife Attractions of the Wildlife Sanctuary beside of course the great one horned Indian Rhino, are the other major other attractions include a large population of Indian Elephants, Indian Bison, Swamp Deer or Barasingha, Hog Deer, Sloth Bears, Tigers, Leopard Cats, Jungle Cats, Otters, Hog Badgers, Capped Langurs, Hoolock Gibbons, Wild Boar, Jackal, Wild Buffalo, Pythons, Monitor Lizards, etc. Take an elephant safari inside the park. Have lunch in one of the small restaurants inside the park, and post lunch, try out a jeep safari.

Morning after breakfast we drive to Jorhat. From Nemati Ghat in Jorhat, take a steamer for Majuli Island. This is the biggest island in the world and has been declared as a National Heritage Site.

Extinct species of various migratory birds are found in Majuli which creates an environment of bird sanctuary. This Day is meant for fun at the Majuli Island. Visit the Xatras of Vaishnava culture. Leisurely breakfast at the hotel and we proceed for Rukmini Island. This beach island is located in Vidarbha, a mythological place in the midst of River Brahmaputra, and around 11 kms from Dibrugarh. A fascinating little island, Rukmini has amazing sand beaches, crystal blue waters, and hordes of migratory birds. The sunrise and sunset look splendid from here.
Return to Dibrugarh and enjoy your stay.
